Meet Townsley Baby #3

Meet Townsley Baby #3
It's a boy!

Little Man is One!

Hi folks. It's been a while since we've updated our blog. Since our last entry we've moved and found out that we are having a baby. That's right everyone...three kids under three and a half! We were so shocked but now we are excited about the fact that our little boys will only be 14 months apart. Bryce turned one yesterday and is as charming as ever. He is 17.5 pounds and 28 1/2 inches long so he's a little guy but boy is he fast! Our son is a climber. He climbs onto tables, chairs, into the dishwasher and dryer. He is a busy little guy who has only two settings....HIGH SPEED and SLEEPING. He is so full of laughs and smiles. I've honestly never seen a happier little boy. He brings everyone so much joy and it is truly an honor to be called his parents! I promise we'll update again soon. Lots of love!

CAS PICNIC

CAS families came together in celebration of our 15 year anniversary and it was big! It was hot!! More than 300 people attended from across the country representing seven states. Everyone enjoyed each other, lunch, Happy the Clown, multiple activities, and especially the Moonwalk.
During the event, Rosemary Martin, CAS executive director, congratulated Susan Fox and Tania Griasnow, for over ten years of service. Susan Fox, assistant director, and Helen Lewis, board president, congratulated and spoke of the past 15 years and all the successes. They challenged the CAS community to continue to support and work with CAS to ensure the next years of success.
Carolina Adoption Services would like to give a heart felt thanks to all the families who donated items or money to make this event a success! We would also like to thank all the families that traveled from near and far; you are what makes the CAS community so very special.

Ha An Phuc’s Passport

We picked up Phuc’s passport (issued in Bryce’s Vietnamese name) this morning and then received his Visa medical clearance from the SOS clinic today (which has become our home away from home away from home). One of the other babies in our group had an enlarged spleen but will still be able to travel. Also, Bryce received a BCG shot at the orphanage. We were told that this is the out of date vaccine for TB which isn’t effective and will cause him to test positive for TB for the rest of his life. I’m really uncertain of the details so if you have any info or advice for this please post! His left ear is still infected and his right one is now red…yuck! However, he is 11.25 pounds now. That is almost two pounds since his referral in October! He is such a wonderful baby. We are thrilled that we received medical clearance and now we are just waiting to hear about when our second embassy appointment will be.

I was so proud of my hubby today when he flagged down a cab and told the driver in VIETNAMESE where we were going! We are picking up a little (VERY LITTLE) Vietnamese and are having fun using it! Love you all and looking forward to being back stateside with you!

Oh you guys!! That sounds wonderful! I am trying to brainstorm on who I can call to ask about the TB. Hopefully, someone can find out for you guys! I am excited about him gaining weight! Everything sounds so positive! Keep up the good work! I probably won't be here when you guys get home..I leave for Mississippi next Wednesday afternoon and I will be gone until Sunday. But, as soon as I get back I want to see you guys!
Thinking of you often,
Chas

Jon and Angela,
Congratulations! I am enjoying keeping up with your journey to bringing Bryce home. I try to read your blog each day and say a prayer for you. You both should be proud of yourselves for all that you are accomplishing and being able to bond with Bryce. Enjoy each moment and I look forward to seeing you when you get home!

Here is what little I know about BCG: It is used to help prevent TB in countries where it is prevalent. It is not 100% effective, but can be useful in that it helps control spread in those countries. It is not used much in the US because TB is mostly controlled here. I have had students who were raised in Europe who had it, then they come to the US and test positive (they have to be tested yearly in health care). So, they just have to have a chest x-ray instead of the intradermal skin test. There is a newer test out in the last couple of years called the Quantiferon-TB Gold test. It, unlike the standard old-fashioned TB test, is a blood test. It can be used instead of the PPD test for people who have been vaccinated. Since it is new, it is not done in all labs yet, but its use is growing. I know about this because Libby (our daughter) tested positive for TB while she was in college. The local pulmonologist wanted to treat her prophylactically for TB (she was not sick) but I did not want her to have all the liver-toxic drugs. So, we took the train to Chicago and had the test done at the U of Chicago, and she was negative - NO DRUGS! The skin test was probably positive due to a bacteria she was exposed to in a friend's hot tub. So... that is what I know. Hope it makes some sense. It really is not likely to cause any problems for you that I am aware of! Glad he is gaining weight; hope he can shake the cold symptoms soon!

The water here is not safe to drink or even brush your teeth in as it is loaded with bacteria. Here is a picture of our coffee maker, which I've been using to sanitize the bottles. It takes about half an hour per bottle as you must boil the water once to kill the bacteria in the water, again to sterilize the bottle and then once more for good measure. I have burns on most of my fingers from trying to remove the bottle from the hot water. It only takes me about three hours a day to clean the bottles as it is only big enough to do one at a time! I'm looking forward to using my dishwasher again!
